The Cabinet approved a $1.2 million grant agreement between the government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to fund consultancy services for upgrading wastewater treatment plants in Alexandria and Damietta. The project will increase the capacity of a sewage treatment plant in Alexandria by adding 50,000 cubic meters per day in two phases, reaching a total of 100,000 cubic meters per day with advanced treatment. The grant will also support the expansion of a treatment plant in Damietta, which currently operates above its capacity, and another plant that is also exceeding its designed capacity. These projects aim to improve sewage systems, support public health, create jobs, and encourage more investment in the sector.
