China is Egypt's largest trading partner based on trade volume, followed closely by Germany at over €5.2 billion. The volume of trade between Bavaria and Egypt amounts to over €490 million, with Bavaria having an export surplus.
Gas, fertilizers, plastics and agricultural products, along with textiles and clothing, are among Egypt’s most important exports.
Around 600 German companies have a subsidiary in Egypt and directly employ around 90,000 people. These companies also include many Bavarian medium-sized enterprises. Siemens has been building new power plants in the country for years.
Germany and Bavaria are also active in the science sector. There are collaborations between German and Egyptian universities that have existed for many years. For example, Fraunhofer has an office in Cairo.
