Egypt is launching the “Ward Al Kheir” program on World Water Day, 15 March 2026, to train girls from vulnerable communities to recycle water hyacinth into marketable handmade products. The initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, and UNICEF. The ministry’s regional training center has already conducted 24 training activities across several governorates benefiting 643 women from civil society groups and water user associations. The National Council is also advancing women’s economic empowerment through ongoing initiatives such as “Dawwie” and the upcoming “Ghazl Banat” program, which will train girls in traditional crafts.
