The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones is moving ahead with a 40 million dollar phosphate processing project in the Qift Public Free Zone in Qena. Developed by the company Movingfert, the project will upgrade low grade phosphate ore to produce up to 3 million tons annually of higher-grade phosphate for both local use and export. The first production line has already been completed, with operations expected to start this year at an initial capacity of 500,000 tons per year, around 80% of which is planned for export. Officials said the project’s location near key mining areas and its direct connection to Safaga Port will help lower transport and production costs. The Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development is coordinating with government bodies to secure utilities and energy supplies, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the phosphate and fertilizer sector.
