European Commission allocates $9.1mln in aid to Egypt

The European Commission will provide €8 million to Egypt as part of a larger aid program to support vulnerable communities. The funding will help improve access to education for children who are not in school and support disaster preparedness programs to strengthen community resilience. This comes as Egypt hosts more than 1.5 million refugees and asylum seekers, mainly from Sudan and Gaza, which puts pressure on public services. The support is part of a wider €458 million regional package, with larger amounts going to countries facing active conflicts, while Egypt’s share focuses more on development needs and refugee support.
