Green industry program launched in Egypt

Egypt has signed a new financing package totaling €53.8 million with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), supplemented by an EU advisory grant of €8.8 million. The funds will support the “Green Sustainable Industries” (GSI) program, which aims to accelerate the green transition of Egypt’s industrial sector, reduce emissions, and strengthen international competitiveness. The initiative includes investments to reduce pollution, improve energy and resource efficiency, and introduce environmentally compliant production standards. These latest agreements are part of a broader €271 million package consisting of EU grants as well as concessional financing from the EIB and AFD.

According to the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), the program aims to help industrial enterprises adopt green technologies and ensure compliance with international environmental regulations. A particular focus is on strengthening the export capacity of Egyptian products, especially for the European market, where stricter regulations apply. By removing technical market-entry barriers and improving environmental standards, the GSI program seeks to increase the global presence of Egyptian industrial goods and sustainably advance the transition toward more sustainable industries.
